The forces of darkness are trying to overcome the incredible light with which the Almighty G-d endowed our world. In this time we all ask the questions: “What can I do?” “What difference can I make?”

The Lubavitcher Rebbe, leader of our generation, teaches us that in times such as these what we need is unity. We must reach into the strength that has kept us together as a people for thousands of years, under the most terrible trials and tribulations­the Torah.

The Rebbe teaches us that the writing of a Sefer Torah Klal Yisroel, a special Torah written for all the Jewish People worldwide, brings incredible light to the world. By unifying our people, letter by letter, we bring about the “Borchenu Avenu Kulanu k’Echod” To implement the Rebbe’s directives in the immediacy of the moment, we gathered in Lubavitch World Headquarters­“770”­on Friday afternoon, Erev Shabbos Bereishis for this momentous task: We put pen to parchment, and began writing the Sefer Torah Klal Yisroel. For the first time in history, we used the Internet to bring together the international Jewish community, giving each Jewish person the opportunity to participate in this important mitzvah.

And the greatest blessing of all, the Redemption, will follow thispainful shaking of the world in the realization of G-d Almighty’s age-old promise.Maimonides has said of this time, “And the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of G-d as the water covers the ocean.” As the Rebbe has assured us, “the time for your Redemption has arrived.”
